Approach to Therapy

Hi, my full name is Loretta Laurin, but you can call me Lo.I specialize in relationships, personal growth, and trauma. I support clients with relationship challenges (including 2SLGBTQIA+ and non-monogamous relationships), interpersonal and family conflict, explorations of identity (including gender and culture), self-esteem, psychedelic integration, life & career transitions, practical organization, and trauma-related symptoms (including physical, sexual, racial, childhood, and intergenerational trauma). My approach is rooted in somatics (body-based) and social justice. With over 17 years of experience teaching mindful movement, I bring a deep understanding of the mind-body connection into my work. As a multi-racial queer person, I’m committed to providing culturally sensitive and context-aware care that honors the complexity of your lived experience. My hope is that you feel deeply supported and empowered with the self-understanding, inner resources, and practical skills needed to truly thrive in your life and relationships.

A Bit About Me Outside of Therapy

I was born and raised in the Vancouver, BC area on the traditional lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations. My mother is a Chinese immigrant, and my late father was Quebecois (French-Canadian). I love dancing, outdoor adventures, and facilitating meaningful experiences for people.

Individual Therapy

I believe in your capacity to heal and grow. While the space I hold is deeply collaborative and non-judgmental, I can also offer direct guidance and gentle challenges to support your growth. Because no two journeys are the same, I tailor our sessions to your individual needs.I am trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS), which helps us explore and balance our parts—like your inner critic, perfectionist, or caretaker. Alongside parts work, my training as a Life Coach brings structured strategies for life visioning and organization, giving you the clarity and tools to confidently design your next chapters. Our work is further enriched by a diverse library of modalities. Depending on what you need, I draw inspiration from Somatic Experiencing (SE), Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Gestalt, Feminist Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), and Person-Centered Therapy.

Relationship & Couples Therapy

In relationship therapy, we explore the root causes of harmful patterns while building effective communication and fostering deeper connection. I bring personal experience across a wide spectrum of relationship styles—including queer, straight, monogamous, polyamorous/open, kink, atheist, and religious dynamics—and I understand that every relationship is unique.I work primarily with Relational Life Therapy (RLT), a powerful model that incorporates trauma work and directly addresses issues of power in relationships. I also seamlessly integrate principles from Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT), the Gottman Method, and Satir Family Therapy. This work can help you articulate your needs, understand your partner(s), and address problematic behaviors with compassion and accountability. Together, we’ll develop and practice practical skills that nurture healthy, lasting relationships.I also welcome private groups of any kind, including families, community members, professional groups, and polycules.
